Variables
Ruddy Duck
Occurred the most disproportionately in hexagons with more than 4%
wetlands and wet shrubland, no subalpine fir - lodgepole pine montane
conifer, and little or no recently cutover/burnt forest. Occurred where
less wetlands and wet shrubland if July maximum temperature (hex.
med.) is 26-33 C and some other type of freshwater habitat is present.
Among hexagons containing no wetlands and wet shrubland, it is most
likely to occur in hexagons with mostly flat terrain and April minimum
temperature (hex. med.) of -2 or -1 C. The logistic regression
analysis showed positive or negative association with big sagebrush
shrubland, lakes/reservoirs, wetlands and wet shrubland, number of
land cover types, April precipitation (hex. med.), and-to a lesser
degree-road density, the extent of public land, and topographic
variation.
